At Houston Custom Framing We’ve Offered a Complete Suite of Services Since 1990
Archival Framing and Matting
Archival framing is the art of safeguarding artwork for generations, using meticulous handling, conservation-grade materials, and appropriate storage so each piece remains as close to its original condition as possible. In our studio, works on paper are mounted using fully reversible archival methods favored by professional conservators, allowing the artwork to be released from its frame even decades later without strain or damage.
We specify 99% UV-filtering glazing as our baseline standard—never an add-on—to help prevent fading, discoloration, and other light-related deterioration. For those who want the most pristine viewing experience, our Museum Glass and Acrylic options pair this high level of UV protection with an exceptionally clear, low-reflection surface, minimizing glare so you see the artwork, not the glass.
Every design incorporates top-tier matboard that meets or exceeds museum standards, including 100% cotton rag options that are naturally acid-free, lignin-free, and resistant to fading and color bleed. Depending on the piece, your artwork can be elegantly floated to reveal its full sheet and edges, or presented within a hand-wrapped fabric mat with a refined fillet detail for a more luxurious, architectural finish. We also offer simpler designs that reflect your vision.
Art Conservation and Restoration
We provide a comprehensive range of services for artwork, collectibles, and cherished family heirlooms. Our studio handles many essential paper conservation needs in-house, and for works on paper that require more advanced treatment, we collaborate with a trusted network of museum-level restoration specialists.
For photographic materials, we offer digital restoration and high-quality duplication to preserve fragile originals. Paintings on canvas or panel can be cleaned, in-painted, repaired, re-varnished, relined, and re-stretched through our conservator partners, ensuring each piece is stabilized and presented at its best.
Frame Repair
Our conservator network provides expert frame restoration services for a wide range of issues. We can help you refinish and repair frames to significantly diminish the appearance of scratches, dings, and surface wear, and can even rebuild missing gesso on elaborate period moldings. When structural work is needed, our trusted craftsmen can mill and fabricate custom wood components to resolve almost any type of damage, and we are also able to replace broken glazing. Before you decide your fine frame is beyond saving, bring it to us for an evaluation.
Object and Garment Framing
We employ specialized mounting techniques to secure each item safely, ensuring long-term stability without compromising object integrity. We hand stitch textilesn, and never use plastic framer staples found in many frame shops.
This approach allows us to frame virtually any textile—fabrics, jerseys, and other garments—as well as three-dimensional objects such as fossils, seashells, medals, coins, firearms, tiles, and porcelain, so they can be displayed elegantly and protected for years to come.
To safeguard these pieces, we use exceptionally clear 99% UV-protective glazing in either glass or acrylic, blocking contaminants and harmful light while preserving a pristine view of the work.
Acrylic Boxes and Shadowboxes
We offer seamless clear acrylic display boxes in a museum-style format, designed to be either wall-mounted or placed on a tabletop. These enclosures are ideal for fragile, delicate, or three dimensional objects, offering protection while providing optimum visibility. Acrylic provides a refined, minimalist presentation that ensures the viewer’s attention stays on the artwork or object itself.
Canvas Stretching
We provide professional canvas stretching for original paintings, prints on canvas, and travel treasures that arrive rolled rather than ready to hang. Each canvas is carefully mounted over custom wooden stretcher bars to create a smooth, secure surface that’s ready for display on its own or as part of a custom frame design
Custom Mirrors
We create bespoke mirrors using your choice of moulding from our extensive collection, with hundreds of profiles available to suit any design vision. Each mirror is custom-built to your dimensions and proportions, then finished in a frame that can range from richly detailed antique-inspired designs to clean, contemporary lines for a more modern look. Whatever your interior style, we can design a one-of-a-kind mirror that feels tailored and intentional, rather than off-the-shelf.
Beyond beveled and antiqued mirrors, we offer standard flat (non‑beveled) mirrors, tinted or smoked mirrors, and specialty options like copper‑finished or silver mirrors.
